should i read this book?

i have spare time, its the third edition of Strength of Materials by G H Ryder, would i be wasting my time reading this book having in mind its a book written specifically for civil engineering and so i've heard, correct if im wrong.
also what book do you recommend for thermo dynamics , currently reading Fundamentals of Thermodynamics the 8th edition, and id love your opinion on the matter, i appreciate any answer thanks.
